Entrance to Ave Maria Palliative Care

Ave Maria Palliative Care, a 15-bedded hospice was established by a team of professionals with a mission of providing compassionate, holistic end-of-life care to patients suffering from life-limiting and terminal conditions and for offering psychological, spiritual, and social support necessary to patients and their families. We strongly believe that when cure is impossible, the possibilities for care are endless.

Located on the scenic hillock in Mangala Nagara, Vamanjoor around 9 kilometers away from the Mangalore city, Ave Maria opened its doors for service on the 8th of September,2008. Our services are free and open to all irrespective of age, economic status, gender or religion. To date, we have assisted more than 1150 patients to have pain-free, dignified end to their lives.

Need for Palliation

Most people hope to die at home peacefully in their sleep. Unfortunately, this does not become a reality for many who are afflicted with debilitating conditions like cancer, kidney failure, liver failure, respiratory diseases or dementia. The end-stage of the disease is often a painful process not only for the person suffering from the condition but also for the caregivers. When patients and families need to prepare emotionally and spiritually for the possibility of death, palliative care becomes a need of the hour for many. It is our strong conviction that human beings deserve respect and dignity until their last breath.

Goals and objectives

  • Offering holistic comfort care to patients with incurable, life-limiting conditions and providing relief from distressing symptoms.
  • Training compassionate caregivers for in-home care of the terminally ill.
  • Empowering patients’ families with short-term training in caring for patients in their own homes.
  • Enhancing community awareness on cancer and other debilitating conditions.
  • Facilitating internships and international exchange programs.
  • Educating professionals by conducting training programs on end-of-life care.
